How We Partner

Africa Forward exists to support locally led change. The organizations, communities, businesses, governments, and institutions closest to a challenge are often best positioned to define it and lead the work to solve it. Our role is to support them with the tools, partnerships, resources, and systems needed to move from local priorities to lasting results.

We believe local ownership should shape not only what we support, but how we operate. These are the commitments we hold ourselves to.

Local leaders lead.
Our partners help define the priorities, shape the strategy, and lead the work. We support their leadership rather than replacing it.

We value partner time.
When partners contribute to design, planning, learning, evaluation, reporting, or partnership development, that time has value. We seek to build budgets and partnerships that recognize the real cost of doing the work well.

We reduce unnecessary burden.
Compliance, reporting, and due diligence are important, but they should not weigh heaviest on the smallest organizations. We work to make these processes clear, proportionate, and practical, while meeting donor and legal requirements.

Partners speak for their own work.
When results are shared with funders, communities, or convenings, the people and organizations doing the work should have the opportunity to tell their own story.

Feedback strengthens partnership.
When a partner tells us something is not working, we treat that as useful information, not a problem. Honest feedback helps us adjust, improve, and build stronger partnerships.

Support is built to last.
We measure what works and invest in the systems, skills, relationships, and capabilities that allow partners to continue creating impact long after a single project or grant ends.
